The Grouchy Ladybug
I brought the book "The Grouchy Ladybug" to Puppy class as I had promrised. To be honest, from the audult's point of view, I never ever thought "role play" was funny and intriguing. But it seemed not the case for kindergarters. They love role play. Today, I retold the story "The Grouchy Ladybug" by having kids role play. With the help of the clock (Thanks Yvonne for donating it to me), and the animals puppets, the story was told in a different and dramatic way. Kids love to come to the front and set the clock. They also love to be the grouchy ladybug and other animlas he met. Most important, they acted out the roles by saying "Hey you, want to fight?" "If you insist." "No, you are not big enough." "Go away." They are learning the foreign lauguage!
In order to pinpoint the theme of the book, I intended to show the first page and the last page of the story and tried to draw kids' attention on the numbers of aphids on the leaf as well as the conversation the grouchy ladybug and the friendly ladybug have. This part was what I left out and missed to instruct last time. Hopefully, the compare and contrast will help kids get the better idea of the book.
Oh, and Whale puppet should be bigger, including the flipper part , the fin and tail.
